Direct Trade Website Connects Growers & Roasters

Internet-based Coffee Exchange Facilitates Buying
Green Coffee Direct From Country of Origin

Denver, Colorado, USA, November 2007 – Intellidon Enterprises, Inc. announced a new online exchange, SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com, which enables North American coffee roasters to source high quality Specialty green coffee beans direct from origin countries. Prior to this service coming online, primarily only large coffee companies had direct access to overseas sellers of Specialty coffees. Now, small to medium size coffee roasters have the ability to purchase Specialty coffee direct from origin through this new internet coffee auction and e-commerce marketplace.

“For years, many coffee roasters have experienced difficulties as they searched for and attempted to buy Specialty green coffee beans at affordable prices. At the same time, origin coffee farmers have had difficulties branding their coffees, creating awareness and connecting with foreign buyers.”

“The fact is, a large majority of the best quality Specialty green coffees have not been readily available domestically to small and medium size roasters in quantities they desire. At the same time, small coffee farmers are often not able to market their coffees as unique lots direct to foreign buyers. Out of necessity, many of these coffees are bulked together to increase export volumes, while an exceptional crop is lost forever, with the origin grower and coffee consumers being the big losers,” said Steve Josephs, Founder of SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com.

SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com is helping to create a paradigm shift in trade through partnerships with origin growers, cooperatives and representatives to help uniquely brand origin coffees and facilitate direct trade with green coffee buyers in North America.

Creating Sustainable Economics for Coffee Farmers

SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com is at the vanguard of organizations taking action to establish independent and proven market-based economics for Specialty coffee farmers based on product quality and brand value, thereby reducing the negative impact caused by the radical swings of C-grade markets.

“Our objective is to bring supply and demand together in an exchange focused on Specialty coffees alone, where market value is influenced by credible branding established through increased market knowledge and appreciation of origin, region, variety, grower, certification, bean characteristics, quality in the cup and other demand driven market forces, to help achieve more sustainable pricing over time.

“As more and more of the world's Specialty coffees are exposed simultaneously and made available in one web-based marketplace with price levels and quality compared across a wider variety of the world's inventory, pricing will become more predictable, thereby helping to reduce income uncertainty for coffee growers and helping coffee roasters to better manage their coffee buying.

“As an online exchange, SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com improves marketplace visibility and transparency, thereby creating benefits for everyone, from coffee farmers to roasters, retailers and the ultimate consumers,” said Josephs.

An Open Exchange Leverages Market Efficiencies

Developed as an open exchange, SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com seeks to provide Specialty coffee roasters and growers the ability to buy and sell green coffee more efficiently. These efficiencies reduce friction in the marketplace, providing more customers and better prices for growers, while creating a wider selection and better value for green coffee buyers. These efficiencies are created through:

  • A global marketplace where Specialty coffee industry buyers and sellers can conduct international transactions with one another through a centralized exchange.
  • Transparency, where sellers can offer coffee from current Origin crops, identified by variety, grower, region, certification, quality and more, thereby supporting a fair market value.
  • A method for roasters to purchase unique high quality coffees directly from Origin growers, while maintaining anonymity and confidentiality.
  • An effective means for monitoring current and past trades for specific origins, regions, farms, estates, varieties and grades of Specialty coffees.

Giving Back to Coffee Farmers

Through its affiliation with Coffee Kids Inc., SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com supports effective environmentally and socially sustainable prosperity in the developing world, from which the livelihood of all involved in the coffee industry are based. SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com has committed to donating a percentage of its profits each year to Coffee Kids.

"We've aligned our efforts with Coffee Kids because we believe that improving a community's economics through sustainable development projects is a rational way to improve the lives of coffee farmers and help reduce the impact resulting from the ups and downs of the coffee industry," said Josephs.
