Obtaining Coffee Samples
You can order coffee "Samples" by contacting the listed seller identified on the Coffee Item Detail page.
Auction Bidding
SpecialtyCoffeeAuctions.com uses an online eBay style Auction format. Buyers compete against other buyers bidding for items at increasing amounts up to a price they are willing to pay, and bidding activity is allowed to continue until the auction duration specified by the seller is over. The highest bidder becomes the auction winner and buys the item at their final bid price.
Often sellers set an undisclosed 'reserve price' below which the item will not be sold, even if there has been active bidding. To win an auction where there is a reserve price, the highest bidder must meet or exceed the reserve price at the close of the auction. Most coffee items will have a reserve price.
BuyNow Purchase
In addition to the auction style bidding process, a seller may also list a BuyNow price. This is an offer to sell at a spot price or immediate purchase price at which a buyer can purchase the coffee lot and immediately stop the bidding process. Once a buyer initiates a BuyNow purchase, the buyer becomes the owner of that coffee lot (or equipment item) and is obligated to pay for the item at that price, plus shipping.
Payment & Shipment - Green Coffee Lots
Immediately following a winning auction or BuyNow purchase, the buyer must contact the seller on record to consumate the transaction. Depending on the seller, this may require a "Contract for Coffee" to be executed where the terms of the sale are explained in full. The buyer will also work out the details for transporting the coffee to the buyer's desired location.
